Not to be recomended September 1, 2010 Shropshire Lad OK I had read all the reviews but nothing prepared me for how bright the light was, even with the two enclosed filters. If you cannot sleep with a light on that is brighter than a normal nightlight; do not buy this product.
Other concerns are.
I am amazed that the unit does not have a back up battery; if there is a disruption to your electricity supply during the night then you will loose your clock and alarm setting.
You could most probably sue Swan under the trades description act with regard to the reading light. One 15 watt bulb hidden behind an opaque plastic cover does not give enough illumination to read with.
As mentioned by other reviewers, if you have been a previous owner of a Teasmade do not expect the alarm to sound if you use the Tea Now function. I do not understand how this is progress.
The instruction to fill the teapot with water to 1" (25mm) below the top and pour the water from the jug into the tank is silly. You then get a wet teapot that you put your tea bags into to overnight; not pleasant. There is no mention in the handbook of what quantity of water to use (we think it is approx. 600 ml) this could then be added via a separate jug to alleviate this problem.
Once again for previous owners of Teasmades. Be warned this particular model does not make the same amount of tea that you are used to.
Lastly, the (jokey) instruction manual. If the amount of time and trouble taken to produce this had been spent on rectifying the above problems, rather than producing an instruction manual that is neither funny nor clever, then Swan might have had a decent product.
The only saving grace for this is that this is the only product on the market that will provide you with an early morning cup of tea without having to get up!
teasmade August 20, 2010 helenmc This has been a great buy. I have had an operation to my foot and it is great to get a cup of tea in the morning, The light on the clock may be a bit bright for some folk, it is like moonlight in your room if you wake in the night, being a bit short sighted I find the clock a bit hard to see but the cup of tea in the morning is great and one teabag is enough.
tea/coffee in bed July 28, 2010 jayne 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this teasmade for my mum, and have to say it's worth every penny. Simple and easy to use, easy to set up, makes tea or coffee
the clock light comes with a sticker to dim the light if you find it too bright. Mum enjoys coffee in bed every morning using either the alarm or just whenever you wake up and are ready for your drink. A great way to start the day. Absolutely BRILLIANT and would recommend to anyone.
STM100N July 12, 2010 Alfie 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Having just purchased a Swan Teasmade STM100N we would like to express our great disappointment in this product.
Why is it necessary for it to have such a bright blue light behind the clock face, illuminating the whole bedroom. Obviously the manufacturers are aware that it is far too bright, as they supply filters to place over the clock face.
This we have done, but we still find the light far too intrusive, and when the clock is set up with the alarm button activated, then the intense blue light on that button is even brighter, increasing the intensity of light even more.
We have always considered that the bedroom should be a dark, or at least a relatively dark, environment in which to sleep, and over the past 50 years whilst we have had several tea making products, we have never encountered the problems that we are experiencing with this product.
It can only be assumed that the designers of this `Iconic 21st Century Teasmade' have never tested it in their own bedrooms, or had the pleasure of using a non-invasive, subdued light, teasmade available in the past.
Judging from some of the internet comments, others are experiencing the same problems.
We consider, therefore, that this product is not fit for use by all but the heaviest of sleepers and we are seriously considering abandoning it after a couple of weeks use.
White light going messing up my mind.... June 19, 2010 Andy Hollinshead (UK) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I've had a teasmade for as long as I can remember. My old one broke and I bought this.
Now I will admit my old one had a slight (and I mean slight) tick on the clock. They have now solved the problem...
...Unfortunately it with a digital clock which is backlit.
It has no dimmer.
It is crazy.
Did no-one think to test it before marketing it?
If you are sensitive to light you will have no problem with oversleeping because you probably won't sleep at all.
Nice cuppa though.
