| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Under inflated tyres result in poor handling, braking and an increased risk of a blow-out. They can hit your wallet, too - research shows running your rubber at 20 per cent below the correct pressure (typically 6psi) increases tyre wear by a quarter. Fuel use goes up by three per cent - and tyre life is cut by nearly a third too! So checking your pressures at least once a week makes sense - and a mini compressor will enable you to top them up quickly and easily. Auto Express used 12 mini compressors to inflate a tyre from 20-30psi against the clock, checking the accuracy of the gauge before and after. These two figures were combined to get an error rating. Finally, features such as hose and wire storage, lamps and adaptors, air-release valves and pressure presets were balanced against price. Auto Express verdict 'The Ring RAC600 combined a great spec with a low price and excellent performance to win, unbeatable.'

Nice Size July 25, 2010 Geoff.. (Cumbria) I recently decided to purchase an air compressor for car-tyre inflation after a couple of slow-puncture experiences, coupled with the fact that availability of "free-air" at garages now appears to be rare. On a visit to my brother-in-law I noticed he had an air-compressor in his car-boot, & he gave a good recommendation for that particular model.
When making purchases I always check the Amazon "review-section" & pick from the "5-star" items, usually guided by the number of 5-star ratings. As this item was ordered from Amazon, but supplied by a 3rd-party I also consulted the 3rd-party website & found that the Ring unit was "Best Buy" in a Motoring Magazine Survey, whilst the compressor used by my brother-in-law was rated as next-best. This suited me as the Ring unit was a neat size compared with the other item considered & also was considerably less cost. The size aspect is important in my case as I run a small car & boot-space is a factor to be considered.
Other than checking operation of the unit, I have not used it further (looks as though my tyres are nail-free at present!). My 5-star rating reflects the usefulness of the Amazon site, and their publishing of user reviews. As a retired Maintenance-engineer I always purchased items after considering user-comments: I can assure you these are worth much more than the comments you see in manufacturer's glossy-brochures.
Does a brilliant job July 19, 2010 Merlin This tyre inflator works really well - you set it to the pressure you require and it stops itself when it gets there. It comes in its own case which is neat and easy to store in the car so its always to hand in an emergency. Delivered exactly as promised. Would recommend to anyone
RAC600 Air Compressor July 19, 2010 mokomole Does all that you expect it to do. It is far quicker than other types and the gauge seems quiet accurate.
Do not buy for car tyres July 17, 2010 rob IT pumps up CAR TYRES only up to 1.95 about 28 PSI.This is not good enough. Car tyres needs to be about 2.2 up to 2.4 BAR. I am returning this product.
RAC600 12v air compressor July 17, 2010 R. Hughes I bought this since it was a recommended Which? best buy. It was delivered in excellent condition within the specified time. The key points are that it is a screw connector on to the wheel valve rather than the more usual clip device. Provided that you keep the valve threads clean by keeping a dust cap fitted then this should be fine. It is powered from the cigarette lighter socket. This worked fine on my wife's car but on my car it does not make such a secure connection. I had to bend the springs a bit. Hence 4 stars not 5. Apart from that, it basically does what it says it will do i.e inflate car tyres to the required pressure and is relatively easy to use. The electrical power lead is quite long enough to get to all four wheels and there is adequate stowage in the device for the power lead and pipe to the tyre valve.
I contacted the seller by email re the power connector and they replied promptly asking me to phone them. I tried three times and gave up. Either the phone was engaged or no answer.
