super chef July 8, 2010 Mr Kiplin (Brighouse, West Yorkshire United Kingdom) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've had the machine a while now and I've bought all the gadgets. As a general purpose mixer it is probably one of the best on the market.
I like the dough hook which makes really good pliable dough; I make a lot of my own bread in particular chapattis. As a whisk it's a bit slow and I still use my hand whisk.
The bowl is a good size and the shape is right. The gadgets all work well; I make my own flour from an assortment of grains and dried legumes. I like to make my own gram flour now something that I use a lot of.
The mincer is good, but a bit messy, although they all are to be honest.
The only thing I don't like is it has a noisy motor, I suppose for the power of the unit it is normal, but when I use it for long periods I really have to have a break or get headache.
Kenwood chef is the golf gti of kitchen equipment July 4, 2010 fiftysomething 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have put up with Fiats in the kitchen for more than 25 years (cheap, functional but with a poor life expectancy.)I decided to treat myself and wish I had done it years ago. Great for batch baking simple to use and great results. Buy one now!
Kenwood Chef Review June 16, 2010 G. R. Parke (Doncaster, England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have just replaced my Kenwood Chef Classic mixer, which I have had for almost 30 years. During that time, it has given me excellent service. I decided to stick with Kenwood, for their reliability & their excellent results. The mixer has a more modern design & I love the stainless steel bowl. It is also very easy to use. Highly recommended - 5 out of 5 - Mrs. I. Parke
Don't know how I managed without it June 12, 2010 Taz 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Yes, the reviewers are right on this one - the Kenwood Chef is awesome. We got ours from Amazon with £[] off but even at full price this is a bargain and compares really well with KitchenAid. In fact an engineer told me that the workings and docks are a bit better than KitchenAid. First impressions: Yes, it is big, but feels professional. Yes, it would be hard to store in a small kitchen - you need a shelf and a drawer for all the bits.
It is attractive and easy to clean. There aren't so many annoying clefts and holes for stuff to get stuck in. NOTE UPDATE: SEE BELOW FOR MY POSTSCRIPT ON CLEANING
It looks intimidating when it is a delivered in a HUGE box and there's lots of paperwork and gubbins to sort through.
I found the setting up easy except for the liquidiser. The manual pictures aren't helpful as they don't look like the Chef. But EXTRAORDINARILY they have a customer helpline. I called and was answered by a very helpful operator immediately. She explained that you have to set the jug at about 2pm and press down quite hard and twist to get it to engage. It gets easier through use.
Don't hesitate - you won't regret buying this.
ps today's efforts? the Chef has a lovely very clear guard that fits over the bowl. There's a wee trap door for adding your ingredients. There I was listening happily to the radio and pouring half a cup of melted butter into my new mixer - I looked down and the trapdoor was still closed. Husband laughs. A lot.
POSTSCRIPT AFTER A FEW WEEKS' USE: Things to take care about. Cleaning is not easy and everything must be hand washed. You simply can't do this without a small brush to reach under blades and MUST use a non-scratch sponge. I accidentally used a Tesco value sponge with scourer and took the finish off the liquidiser jug. The material is not very robust. The manual says not to put 'utensils' in the dishwasher - but that includes the bowls, trays and feeders. I have the mincer which has a tray above it to hold the meat as you push it down the tube. It looks like steel. Using with raw meat makes it sticky and obviously there's the possibility of contamination. I reasoned the holding tray wasn't a 'utensil', put it in the dishwasher to safely remove meat residue and completely ruined it. I'll have to buy a new one now as a grey oil comes off on your hands and presumably also the food. I am not keen on hand washing something on which I chop meat, but if you want something dishwasher proof I guess you need to buy a professional mincer.
The manual generally isn't very helpful, and in particular it doesn't mention you need to use a lot of force to attach the bits which can be disconcerting - you almost feel you'll break it.
Finally the food processor attachment I wanted is not available for my model which is a shame as it is pretty important. If you are buying look on their web site first to check this model can take what you want.
Conclusion? you get what you pay for and since this is a 'cheap' product the down side is harder to clean and easier to damage.
Brilliant June 6, 2010 Mrs Katfish (Herts) Excellent product - have used lots already - great for making cakes and scones for my cricket teas. Would definitely recommend. Good value sturdy product.
