the best by far June 27, 2010 john cooper (richmond, surrey United Kingdom) Many years ago when there was less choice I bought both coolers from Vacuvin. And 20 years of pretty constant use later the wine cooler started to leak. So I bought a couple of cheaper alternatives thinking they would be as good. The alternatives were utter rubbish - ill fitting around the bottles and lumpy and hard when frozen.
When I saw these two offered for the price at Amazon I didn't hesitate and now look forward to another 20 years of use. Order is now restored in the household - it proves once again you pay for what you get.
Wine Coolers May 28, 2010 Mr I C (Lanarkshire Scotland) I have used these for a number of months now. They both do a very good job of chilling wine. I particularly like the Champagne cooler as it fits very easily over any type of sparkling wine.
I would recommend this cooler set to anyone and I also thought they were a bargain from Amazon.
Vacuvin December 11, 2009 Mrs. V. A. Francis (Birmingham UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm short of fridge space and wanted a really fast way to cool white wine.
In 10 minutes the wine was cool but not quite cold enough.
Top tip: Put the wine in the Vacuvin and then in the freezer for ten minutes. This gives excellent results.
Brilliant, simple and efficient idea not only for wine bottles! November 3, 2009 V'ger 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
FOR ALL THOSE PEOPLE THAT WANT TO TRY THIS NOT ONLY WITH WINE BOTTLES:
When I saw these coolers, I was actually looking for a new thermos to keep some cold water around the house during my _very_ hot Italian summers; problem is, using a thermos everyday for water does not seem very hygienic, since IMHO it is quite difficult to keep thermos not only clean, but _sterile_, due to all their different pieces that are in contact with the water (especially the rubber seal, which can become a bacteria depot, and often absorbs the "flavors", especially if you use it also for coffe, tea, etc., in winter...).
Therefore, I was looking for some solution to keep cool bottled water in their disposable plastic bottles, and all of a sudden I saw these: I had never heard of flexible cooling "jackets" before, and the price seemed quite appealing, especially considering this is a double set. My only doubt was the size: these coolers are clearly designed to fit around glass _wine_ bottles, not plastic water bottles, which are quite larger, usually.
Nevertheless, I read a comment from someone else telling that it was possible to use them around water bottles, so I gave it a try...
Actually, if you try to put these around a typical "square" or "octagonal" 2-liter PVC water bottle, you will have a hard time fitting them, since the coolers are _not_ very flexible, especially the smaller one, and once you take them out of the fridge they will be even tighter, so you will need to partially empty and squash the bottle a lot...
For smaller, 1-liter bottles, or bottles with rounded edges, such as those used for fruit juices or cold drinks, this would not be a problem, but in the end I found the perfect solution: I bought a classic milk 1-liter glass bottle with cap, which is extremely easy to clean even in the dishwashing machine, filled it with bottled water, and put the jackets around it. Result: perfection!
Now I have 2 custom-made, perfectly sterile thermoses that can keep ice-cold _any_ liquid for almost _FIVE_ hours at 24°-28°C ambient temperature, OR 2 rapid coolers that can turn any ambient-temperature liquid into a cold drink in _few minutes_! Much better than a fridge! (It is almost like putting bottles in the deepfreezer.)
Please note that, if you use these to cool liquids which are at ambient temperatures, (a typical emergency-cooling situation during the summer, when you realize that you forgot to put water or wine in the fridge at lunch/dinner time...), the liquids will get cool very fast, but will _not_ stay cool for a long time, maybe half an hour to an hour max., in the summer, but if you use them around bottles which are _already_ cold (taken out of the fridge), thay stay ice-cold for _hours_ even in the hottest air, as I mentioned before.
By the way, they are _extremely_ elegant, especially the one with the cord, and IMHO would make a very good impression even at a formal dinner, so are perfect as an inexpensive and quite useful gift (add a nice water 1-liter bottle if you want to make a perfect gift!).
Absolutely recommended!
just what I have been looking for! July 25, 2009 K. Marston (UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This does the job perfectly. It chilled my wine nicely (and I love my white wine chilled), and is a cheap and effective alternative to the more pricey wine chillers, and its also easy to store as it goes flat in the freezer, which is great if you have limited space like myself! It also looks nice, which is great if you wish to use it on the table at meal times. I'm very impressed with this!
