Not great at all July 4, 2010 Dave Rhodes 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the only pasta machine I've used - I got it because many of the customer reviews on here rated it more highly than the alternatives. There are a number of flaws with the design that really could be corrected quite simply, but as it stands it's far from ideal, and quite difficult to use. First of all, the bracket for holding the machine to a work surface or table top doesn't do the job well however hard it is tightened - the pasta maker always ends up sliding around when the handle is operated. Next the dial for adjusting the thickness of the pasta is almost impossible to grip and turn when hands have any flour on them or had contact with the dough - all it needs is for the dial to be knurled, but it's not it's completely smooth. Also, each thickness setting on the dial has a locking lever that has to be depressed at the same time the dial is turned, which means that two hands need to be used to perform the action, making it much more of a fiddle than it needs to be - I can't see the importance of this type of locking mechanism, or even having one at all. Finally, the pasta cutter that accompanies the machine makes tagliatelle and *square* spaghetti - this is really mean, as it means you just have to buy a separate spaghetti cutter at extra cost when they could have made the one already provided make the proper stuff. I mean square spaghetti, who wants that?
Perfect pasta May 30, 2010 E. Walsh (Bracknell, England) We bought the Imperia pasta machine to replace a Chinese-made copy that we had previously been given as a gift. The old machine worked ok the first few times but started to deteriorate quite quickly.
The Imperia is just great, makes perfect pasta every time, well worth paying for the quality.
If you're thinking about buying a pasta machine for the first time, get this one, you'll be making great pasta in no time at all.
well worth the small amount extra May 13, 2010 pasta chef trainneee (Castle in Scotland) Soooo glad I took notice of the other reviews and didn't buy the cheapest.
This is tough, resiliant, hardworking, and works wonderfully.
Easy to set up, easy to use, simple to clean and appart from the dodgy recipe instructions from my friend!!! all the rest of my pasta was good.
I should have got a wooden pasta dryer.... I ended up with 5 wooded spoons trapped under by chopping board at the edge of a kitchen unit so that I could dry my pasta on them.
All in all it will not be resigned to the back of my cupboard.
Well built machine May 12, 2010 Norman SM Moor Excellent machine very well built easy to use but you may need to purchase extra attachments depending on what you want to do.
High Quality quite heavy.
Making pasta easy! May 10, 2010 J. Fachot (Reading, England) This is an excellent pasta machine!! I decided one day that I would give making pasta a try and since then have rolled out some perfect pasta (just make sure you flour the machine and pasta regularly when using). It'a nice and sturdy piece of kit which I can imagine I will be using for the next few years/decades!
The pasta sheets are then easy to cut into nice ribbons using either a knife or using the attachment (again flour loads as you don't want the pasta to stick!)
Only complaint (hence -1 star) is that the cup on the clamp broke off after first use and it is now quite fiddly to mount the machine. Not enough hassle to send it back (until I lose the cup that is!) and no supplier in the UK for spares!
