So disappointed :( December 5, 2008 Madabout....shopping! (Isle of Wight) Every time I've cooked a pizza, with homemade dough, it sticks to the hot stone, despite heating it first. Even tried baking a loaf of bread on the hot stone, that stuck too. Am going back to using baking tins, which I've used for years. Think maybe the stone OK for ready made or frozen pizzas. Heating the oven to make the stone hot each time its used and cost of the thing itself has been a total waste of time & money!
Best way to cook pizza in a home oven! October 2, 2008 D. Minniti (Durham, UK) Really good. The problem with normal oven pizza is that the cheese needs to burn for the base to cook, and the base comes totally differently. The only way to make this better would be to make it square so you can make the most of the oven space. Also, it could be thicker. However, I am finally happy with the pizza I make away from the Pizzaria.
does wot it says on the plate September 22, 2008 S. P. Mason (u/k) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
took ages to arrive but well worth the wait, I buy value bases and put my own toppings on and they come out just like the ones from Pizza house!!! without the Que. try cooking your garlic bread on it as well, Yummy
Great results every time July 8, 2008 Rowland Shaw (Ipswich) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Gives good consistent results every time -- I'd recommend getting two as the stone is only big enough for half the smallest dough recipe I've found (500g flour)
worked as I hoped it would March 7, 2008 Nicky (west yorkshire) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
tired of soggy bottomed pizzas I hoped this would be the solution to restaurant quality crispy pizzas at home. Its my new toy and it does work well, but the stone does have to be piping hot when you put the dough on it. If you let the stone cool down too much the dough will stick and you will have to scrape it off. I notice some reviewers said their oven did not get hot enough. Our oven is a cheapo one with no fan or anything, the 'max' setting on the dial appears to be something above 250c, possibly 300c, and it works fine, provided you do get the stone really hot. The only drawback I can see to it is that obviously you have to handle the hot stone with oven gloves, but well, thats the nature of cooking, unless you just eat salad. Also once you have used it a few times it will look very 'seasoned' ie stained, but its a cooking stone, thats what its going to look like! And it does make nice pizza. (or rather you make nice pizza, its just a hot stone). Happy cooking!
